Goldfinger is a hybrid variety developed by the Honduran Foundation for Agricultural Research (FHIA) specifically for disease resistance. It is resistant to both Panama disease and Black Sigatoka, making it one of the most trouble-free fruiting bananas available.
The fruit has a distinctive apple-like tang when eaten fresh and is also excellent cooked. It is a dual-purpose variety that works as both a dessert and a cooking banana.
Growing Conditions
Full sun, rich soil. Somewhat cold-tolerant for a fruiting banana — performs well in zones 8b and 9. Strong wind tolerance due to a sturdy pseudostem.
Time to Fruit
12 to 18 months. Reliable producer.
Propagation
Pup division. Tissue culture plants sometimes available.
